The iconic buildings of the future will affect more than skylines by focusing on environmental stewardship and better performance. WSP, in partnership with Schneider Electric, conducted energy modeling for an existing office building using three energy conservation measures to identify the best pathways for decarbonization. Thousands of scenarios led to a handful of clear conclusions, including that a digital-first approach can cut operational carbon emissions by up to 70%. To learn further benefits of digital solutions to carbon within existing buildings, read the study here: https://lnkd.in/eDK-WK3R #MakesAPlace #Buildings #Decarbonization #WeAreWSP

As we ease out of April and into May, and reflect on the critical awareness Earth Day and Earth Month help raise about our environment, we felt now was the right moment to introduce our biweekly LinkedIn newsletter: Future Ready Features. As an organization dedicated to sustainable growth — and balancing the needs of the built environment with the protection of the natural one — WSP, in our way, celebrates Earth Day every day in the work we do and the communities and clients we support. In this inaugural issue, we take a look at biodiversity’s growing role in climate risk reporting, major government investment in clean energy projects, and how nature can play a key role in coastal resilience. And we give a nod to the remarkable legacy of Earth Day. Please enjoy the read and subscribe to receive future issues! #Environment #Sustainability #EarthMonth #WeAreWSP

Shared goals. The connection of Earth Day and living shorelines lies in the shared goal of balancing resilience with ecological uplift to protect the environment and mitigate the impacts of a changing climate. The Franklin 98 Living Shoreline project is applying nature based solutions to stabilize Highway 98 along Apalachicola Bay in Franklin County, FL. WSP is working closely with the Apalachee Regional Planning Council and the community to create 20 acres of oyster reefs and 30 acres of saltmarshes to repair and protect areas of the bay damaged by erosion. The project is transforming a heavily eroded shoreline vulnerable to storms and sea level rise into a stable, lush mosaic of habitats that provides important ecological enhancement to the bay and resilience to nearby communities. At WSP, we believe that community starts with people, place and purpose. Our passion is realizing all that can be built on that foundation: https://lnkd.in/epKqQiJv #CommunityRealized #WSPproject #EarthDay
